Response to lacking insurance

I learned that the insurance is a big deal to the costs of drugs. If you don't have health care it is really hard for you to get your prescription. It is a lot of money without the coverage that you could get. There are a lot of parents that need to get medication for their kids but they can't afford, so they just figure they'll have to go without. Which puts their kids in a bad situation because they could get hurt from not being able to take their medication. It really makes me sad when I think about how many children are hurting because their parents can't afford their medication.

less insurance increases drug costs

- with the lacking of insurance people can't afford medication so it puts their lives and their children's lives in danger
- they are trying to find new ways to help people with this crisis
-they are trying to provide health insurance nationally, for children under 18 years of age that are uninsured
-
"The dollars are best spent when we spend them on children," said Andy Walker, public health manger for the Polk County Public Health Department. "Prevention dollars spent on children provide that child with better health for the rest of their lives."
-the Oregon Health Fund Board provided a list of things that Oregon needed to start taking care of and providing health care the children was among the top of the list
- they are also trying to get the health bored to cover more adults too
- for adult making 10,400 a year and less are needing the health plan coverage
- the goal is to get another 100,000 adults enrolled in the program
- Oregon's state legislator is still setting up a health care plan for 2009
- this plan would include a tax for tobacco or expanding some other costs
-nationally they are trying to get other states to expand their health coverage for more children
-the Children's Health Insurance Program is due to run out in march of '09
-they also want to try and open up more clinics, and school based health centers
- they understand that bringing down the costs would help a nation wide health coverage
